Winter is starting to act a little more like winter in New York. Still no sign of snow but the temperature has been dipping down. I've been keeping warm in my new blanket scarf by Wood Wood and Fjord Hat by Wiksten. I've also been going into hibernation, falling asleep by 10 pm every night. It's nice.

We spent the holiday weekend in Virginia with family. Every year, my mom makes a Finnish sour cream cake out of this old cookbookon Christmas morning. Cardamom is the key ingredient. It's not too sweet, perfect for afternoon coffee or tea.

And here's my new angel ornament made by Jenny. I adore it.

After a hectic few weeks, it was nice to have things wind down a little and have a chance to tidy up the studio. A few weeks ago, Jennifer stopped by for a visit and brought this beautiful Ermie scarf in her After Party print. She currently sells it as a dress but I'm really hoping she starts selling the print as a scarf as well, it's so stunning in both versions.

The studio is now closed for orders and things will begin shipping again in the new year. If you are looking for something last minute, you can always try to locate a stockist near you.

The new Wiksten shop opened and it looks great! Although Jenny's forest Anna dress sold out before I could order one, I did snag a little ceramic bottle by object & totem.

Jenny is selling some odette pieces as well; arrow bracelets and single pyramus necklaces on oxidized sterling silver chains. I love how they look with her new dresses. Although the arrow bracelets are currently sold out, she'll be restocking them shortly!

My friends Marichelle and Melissa hosted a little pop-up shop in Melissa's beautiful Victorian home in Maplewood, NJ over the weekend. It was lovely and they are such naturals at it, I think they should open up a permanent shop.

A few of the other lines there: Shanna Murray, Flores del Sol, Leah Duncan, Stepanka, Clementine, Secret Holiday, Hadley Hutton, Alicia Bock, and Susy Jack. Sweets were provided by Brandi (I'm going to be making this very soon).

I just had a batch of 400 photographs printed. I haven't printed digital photos in years and that makes me so sad because I love printed photographs. I could rifle through stacks of old photos for hours. I also had some printed in black and white because I miss black and white photos. And I know it's not the same as shooting in black and white but maybe they will still be nice to look at.

For me, the textiles were the most interesting things to see at the markets in Turkey. Most of the things displayed out front in the stalls were newer things and not particularly interesting (there was a huge section of fake handbags for example) and I was looking for something a little more special, though I didn't know exactly what.

It took a half hour conversation with a friendly carpet seller to make it back to his stacks of beautiful antique hand-embroidered textiles where I found the suzani. It's a bit tattered and imperfect but it is embroidered with thousands of little hand stitches and I can't imagine the time that went into making it.

Here are a few of my favorite things that I brought back from the bazaars: an antique hand-embroidered suzani of unknown origin, pillows made from old kilim rug remnants, an antique woven rug, and a linen hammam towel, woven on a hand loom in Southern Turkey.
